After-Dark Game Drives
Head out after sunset with an experienced guide and a spotlight to explore the bush as it comes alive at night. Night drives are offered in private conservancies and selected reserves.

Nocturnal Wildlife
Look for leopards on the hunt, hyenas on the move and rarely seen animals such as aardvark, bushbabies, civets, genets and porcupines that are difficult to spot during the day.

Starry Night Skies
Away from city lights, Africa’s night skies are spectacular. Your guide will stop to point out the Milky Way, the Southern Cross and other constellations before you return to camp.

After-Dark Game Drives
Drives usually last two to three hours and run in parks and private conservancies where they are permitted, often using red-filtered spotlights to avoid disturbing the animals.

Nocturnal Wildlife
You may also spot rarely seen species such as aardvarks, porcupines, genets, civets, servals and owls that are hard to find during the day.

Starry Night Skies
Stop for a moment with the engine off to take in the Milky Way, the Southern Cross and the sounds of the bush at night.
What are Night Game Drives
Experience a completely different world as you observe nocturnal animals in the African wild. Night Game Drives are conducted in specialised open-sided 4×4 safari vehicles, primarily used for night game drives, to provide unobstructed views. You’ll be accompanied by armed rangers and experienced tour guide/drivers in your safari vehicles. Night game drives are optional add-ons and conducted by third-party tour operators in specific designated areas.
Where to Go on a Night Game Drive
Night Game Drives are not permitted across safari zones. In Tanzania, you can arrange night game drives in Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park. They are not available in Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya is the only safari destination that permits night game drives. We secure permission from the relevant national park authorities beforehand, and with proper guidance and ethical practices, we conduct the game drives.
What You Might See on Night Game Drives
You can spot a variety of nocturnal animals on night game drives. Major predators such as leopards in acacia trees, resting lion prides, and the cackle of hyenas hunting at late dusk. You can also spot small nocturnal animals like genets and civets, followed by bushbabies and porcupines. If you’re lucky, you may spot endemic species like owls fishing in nearby water bodies or preying on small elephant shrews. You can spot herbivores like water buffaloes and elephants near water bodies from a safe distance.
