Crafting Your Perfect Journey
The term “Safari” is a Swahili word meaning Journey, from the Arabic term safarī, meaning a journey. The first known use of Safari was in 1859 by explorer Sir Richard F. Burton, and it has gained popularity with African wildlife and nature tourism over centuries.
But what exactly is “Zo”?
“Zo” stems from the Greek root Zōion, meaning “living creature” or “wildlife” (the foundation of zoology). In Haitian Creole, “Zo” means “bone” or “dice” (derived from the French word os). For the Japanese, zō means elephant, while in Tibetan, zo or Zho refers to a hybrid animal produced by crossbreeding a yak with a domestic cow. Animals and life have been the centre of definition for “Zo”, but the Dutch variation is “so,” “thus,” or “like this.” It can also mean “right away”, as a direction.
Across countries, cultures, and centuries, “Zo” has been associated with animals, life, and the meaning of being alive. When combined, Safarizo means “Where a Journey Comes Alive”, “A Journey of Life” or a “Journey Into Wild Life”, as you wish to interpret, as a traveller, an explorer or simply a human in awe of the wonders of Africa’s wild.
