Explore the wilderness on foot with experienced armed guides in places like the Serengeti, Nyerere (Selous), Ruaha and the Okavango Delta. Walking brings you closer to nature than any vehicle can.

Tracking and Bush Skills
Learn to read animal tracks, droppings and signs, identify medicinal plants and understand bird alarm calls. Every walk is a hands-on lesson in how the bush works.

Fly Camping
Spend a night in a simple fly camp under the stars, away from the main lodge. With dinner by the campfire and the sounds of the wild all around you, it is a true adventure.

Guided Bush Walks
Walks usually start early in the morning when the air is cool and animals are most active. They last two to four hours and are kept to small groups led by an armed ranger and a guide.

Tracking and Bush Skills
Your guide will show you how to identify footprints, judge how fresh a trail is, and understand the alarm calls of birds and monkeys that warn of a predator nearby.

Fly Camping
Fly camps are set up with simple dome tents and bedrolls, with a campfire dinner and the sounds of the wild all around you through the night.
Where to Go on a Walking Safari?
Walking Safaris are popular tours across Eastern and Southern regions. They are mostly divided into two main types involving short guided bush walks and multi-day guided walking safaris. Countries like Kenya, Tanzania, and Botswana offer immersive, luxury walking safari experiences. Bush walks in designated zones of the Masai Mara Game Reserve and along the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River in Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve are especially popular. Ruaha National Park and Tarangire National Park are great spots for walking safaris in Tanzania. In Botswana, walking across the Makgadikgadi Pans is a unique experience, comparatively off-beat compared with other destinations.
What Wildlife Can Be Seen on a Walking Safari?
To be clear, 4×4 game drives offer the best wildlife views on safari. However, walking safaris also offer views of various small creatures, large mammals and birds. Mammals like elephants, water buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, rhinos, hippos and zebras are mostly spotted on walking safaris. Antelopes and smaller wildlife such as impala, kudu, eland and warthogs can be spotted near water bodies. You may not spot large predators, as walking safaris are not conducted in predator-prone zones to ensure traveller safety.
Are Walking Safaris Safe to Conduct?
Walking safari tours are often considered an alternative to game drives and offer an eco-friendly approach to viewing wildlife while capturing breathtaking landscapes. Yes, walking safaris are safe when led by the right people. Each walk is guided by a certified, experienced guide, usually with an armed ranger, who reads animal behaviour and keeps the group at a safe distance. Groups stay small and follow clear signals after a detailed briefing. Walks take place in the calmest hours, early morning and late afternoon, on carefully chosen routes. If you can walk two to three hours at an easy pace, you are ready.

Frequently Asked Questions.
Most walks last 2 to 4 hours, usually in the early morning or late afternoon. Longer full-day walks and multi-day trails between camps are also available.
Your guide will brief you in advance. Stay calm, stay behind the guide, follow hand signals, and never run. Most encounters end with the animal simply moving on.
The dry season is generally best, as vegetation is thinner and animals gather near water. The exact months depend on the country, so that we will advise you based on your destination.
A moderate level of fitness is enough. Walks are done at a slow, easy pace with regular stops, so you should be comfortable walking two to three hours over uneven ground.
Wear neutral colours such as khaki, olive, and beige, and avoid bright colours, white, and dark blue or black. Bring sturdy closed shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, a light jacket for cool mornings, binoculars, and a refillable water bottle.
