Your guide explains how each colony works, from the sentries on lookout to the babysitters caring for pups. When they feel at ease, meerkats may even use a seated visitor as a lookout post.

    Frequently Asked Questions

The dry season from May to October is ideal. Meerkats are most active in the early morning, when they come out of their burrows to warm up in the sun. Quad biking on the pans also runs in the dry season, when the surface is firm.

No wildlife sighting can be guaranteed. That said, guides and researchers closely follow the habituated colonies, so your chances of spending time with them are very high.

Yes. The walking pace is gentle, and children usually love the meerkats. Some activities, such as quad biking, have minimum age limits, which we confirm when you book.

Pack light, neutral-coloured clothing, a hat and sunglasses for the day, and a warm jacket for cold desert mornings and evenings. A camera with a zoom lens and a good pair of binoculars are highly recommended.

Mostly walking. You’ll meet meerkats on foot with your guide, and travel between areas by 4×4. The quad bike excursion offers another way to explore the pans.
